Hayling care home residents celebrate D-Day
Wimborne Care Home on Hayling had some very happy and well entertained residents celebrating D Day on Saturday 6th June. They came together to pay tribute and honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in D-Day. Residents enjoyed a fascinating quiz and a special reminiscence talk, sharing treasured memories and stories from years gone by.

With wartime melodies playing in the background, they and staff gathered around beautifully laid tables with fine china to enjoy a traditional English cream tea, creating a wonderful atmosphere of reflection, friendship and gratitude.

Hayling is closely aligned to the sailings and historic landings of 6th June 1944 and Wimborne was filled with patriotic decorations and heartfelt memories as residents reflected on one of the most significant events in modern history. Many residents shared personal stories of family members who served during the Second World War, whilst others recalled their own experiences of living through wartime Britain.
Wimborne it is worth noting is also a highly regarded Veteran Friendly Care Home (There is an official accreditation and Wimborne was not only the first of Barchester’s 260 plus homes to achieve this but it is also the only such home in the Hayling/Havant region to do so.
