Hayling care home prepares for Big Garden Bird Watch
A Hayling Island care home has extended a warm welcome to birds in its garden in time for the National Big Garden Bird Watch Weekend running 23-25th January.
Residents of Wimborne Care Home had tremendous fun making for the birds a large number of fat, nut and seed balls to attract and feed to wide variety of birdlife found on Hayling. Wimborne is well known and highly regarded as a fun and active care home ‘with a lot going on’ but this up and coming initiative is one that a great many of the residents will enjoy and enthusiastically participate in from the warmth of the inside.

There is a calm and simple pleasure in watching wildlife in our gardens and birds are certainly welcomed and greatly enjoyed at Wimborne.
The survey involves taking an hour and watching and counting the birds that land in the patch during that time. Heartbreakingly, it is known that 38 million birds have been lost from our skies in the last 60 years.

Stephen Stace, Peri General Manager of Wimborne commented: “We are very much looking forward to the Big Garden Birdwatch on 23 -25th January, Wimborne is going to be a small part of the world’s largest garden wildlife survey! We are joining in in order to add to that picture, knowledge and understanding.
"Many of our residents speak fondly of song thrushes but haven’t seen one in ages but we welcome the cheeky robin who’s patch we appear to be part of!’
Wimborne care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Wimborne provides residential and dementia care for 47 residents from respite care to long term stays.
