Hayling care home opens its doors as a 'swelter shelter' during heatwave
As temperatures soar on Hayling, the team at Wimborne Care Home is inviting local residents to take refuge from the heat by visiting the home's cool and comfortable areas.

Coining the phrase ‘a swelter shelter’, the initiative offers a welcoming place for older people and anyone feeling the effects of the hot weather to relax, rehydrate and enjoy some company during the hottest part of the day.
Visitors can enjoy the air conditioned reception area, the ‘hydration station’ and a friendly chat in some cool company!

General manager, Stephen Stace said; ‘ Heatwaves can be particularly challenging for older people and those living alone. We wanted to offer a safe, cool and welcoming space where members of the community can escape the heat. Stay hydrated and enjoy some companionship. Nobody should have to struggle through the hottest days on their own.’
Wimborne’s hospitality team has been helping residents stay comfortable with plenty of chilled treats, hydration stations and shaded outdoor areas, whilst activities have been adapted to keep everyone cool and safe.
‘Sometimes a cold drink, a cool room and a friendly face can make all the difference’ added Nikki Shepherd, Home Services Advisor, ‘Our doors are open and we’d love to welcome anyone who needs a break from the heat.’
