Perfect opportunity for volunteering

Charity Community First is keen to connect with local groups and organisations in Havant to create more volunteering opportunities for people taking part in its Positive Pathways programme.

Positive Pathways supports individuals in the Havant Borough to build confidence, develop skills and improve their wellbeing through supported volunteering. The service works with people who may face barriers to employment or social inclusion, helping them take positive steps at a pace that suits them.

Participants are already making a positive impact across the local community through a range of practical activities, including gardening, cleaning, maintenance and community projects.

At Bedhampton Community Centre, for example, Positive Pathways participants have been working alongside local volunteers to help maintain and improve the space for visitors. Recent sessions have included window cleaning, painting, mowing, planting, repairing outdoor areas and general upkeep.

Community First is now hoping to build on these partnerships by linking up with more local organisations that might be open to offering similar opportunities.

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive of Community First, said: “Being part of Positive Pathways gives people a chance to make an impact in their community, meet new friends, and gain skills that will stay with them for life. It’s truly rewarding to see how much participants enjoy being involved. We’re excited to explore more ways they can contribute while learning and having fun.”

Feedback from organisations supported by Positive Pathways volunteers includes: “I’m delighted with such a quick turnaround in our very neglected, over run wildlife garden, and I’m very much looking forward to their next visit” and “they were helpful, willing and committed to helping us be successful. I really don’t know what we would have done without them.”

Opportunities can be flexible and tailored to the needs of each organisation, with support provided throughout.
