Fratton local community invited to take part in powerful live performance this June
Would you like to take part?
With no experience necessary, 60 local people aged 16+ are being sought to join an unforgettable community cast in a performance of Insane - a striking contemporary piece created by internationally acclaimed Šeiko Dance Company.
Inspired by ritual and collective energy, Insane brings together international artists and the local community, creating a shared creative experience that reflects the diversity of Portsmouth and the power of people coming together through movement.
Taking place on Sunday 21 June 2026 at St Mary’s Churchyard, the performance is part of 432 Fratton, a lively day of free activity featuring performances, community events and the annual Inspiring Fratton Awards.
432 Fratton forms part of The Point Is Portsmouth, a city-wide programme by Crying Out Loud celebrating Portsmouth100.
Ana Gillespie, Programme & Engagement Producer at Crying Out Loud, said:
“This is an open invitation for anyone aged 16 or over to be part of something truly special. You don’t need any experience, just a willingness to give it a go.
Insane explores how movement can connect people beyond words, creating a powerful shared experience through rhythm and expression. Taking part is a chance to work with international artists, meet new people and build confidence while being part of something that brings the community together in a meaningful and memorable way.”
Participants will take part in up to eight relaxed and supportive rehearsals between 11–20 June (each around two to three hours), leading up to two live 60-minute performances on the day.
As well as contributing to a special moment in Fratton during Portsmouth’s centenary year, those involved will experience contemporary dance first-hand while being part of a collaborative ensemble and creative process. Whether joining individually or as a group, participants will help build a sense of community and have the opportunity to meet new people, nurture confidence and take pride in their local area.
432 Fratton is presented in partnership with Fratton Together and Portsmouth-based 432 Nomads.
Those interested in taking part can sign up via an online form, with full details of the rehearsal schedule and commitment provided upon registration. Sign up here - https://forms.gle/nHnArQ6PUjePPKUg8
