Former opera star celebrates 80th birthday with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at The Guildhall
A Portsmouth care home resident and former opera singer was given a birthday celebration to remember after attending a special Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra performance at Portsmouth Guildhall to mark his 80th birthday.

Keith Holmes, a resident at Mary Rose Manor Care Home in Copnor, Portsmouth, enjoyed a VIP welcome at the Guildhall, where he celebrated the milestone surrounded by music that has played such an important role throughout his life.
An accomplished baritone, Keith has enjoyed a distinguished singing career, performing at the BBC Proms and alongside the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Returning to hear the orchestra perform on his 80th birthday made for an emotional and fitting celebration.
Keith was accompanied by Claire Tamplin, Holistic Healthcare Coordinator, at Mary Rose Manor Care Home, who said the evening had been made possible thanks to the home's commitment to creating meaningful experiences for its residents.
"Tonight was incredibly special for Keith," said Claire. "This is all down to our wonderful manager, Julie Turk supporting these initiatives. We have an amazing team who love creating memorable experiences to celebrate our residents and make every milestone count."
"We're so grateful to Portsmouth Guildhall for giving Keith such a warm welcome and making his birthday so memorable. The orchestra were magnificent, and it was wonderful to watch Keith smiling throughout the performance. It is especially poignant because Keith was once an opera singer himself and performed with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra during his career. To celebrate his 80th birthday with the very orchestra he once sang alongside made the evening truly unforgettable."
Keith spent the evening captivated by the orchestra's stunning performance, clearly enjoying every moment as he reflected on a lifetime devoted to music.
Claire, who is also the founder of the Mindful Movement Mission, was recently awarded National Wellbeing Champion 2026 , and Portsmouth's rising star for her work promoting wellbeing across the community, said the focus of the evening was entirely on Keith.
"Tonight is all about Keith," she said. "Happy 80th Birthday, Keith. We hope your special day was everything you deserved and a celebration you'll always remember."
The celebration reflects Mary Rose Manor Care Home's dedication to enriching the lives of its residents through meaningful experiences, ensuring that special milestones are celebrated in ways that create lasting memories.
