Fareham Bowling Club gets off to a flying start
As always Fareham Bowling Club, Leigh Road, held its annual Come and Try Day earlier this month, welcoming more than 20 potential new bowlers who have taken up the opportunity of six free training sessions.

This years’ President, at the club, David Bane, who is also one of the club’s coaches commented, “We had a tremendous response to the Come and Try Day this year and we are delighted to welcome new bowlers to the club. The six training sessions are held on Saturday mornings, giving those still working a chance to participate. The sessions will give new bowlers a basic knowledge of the game to get them started. All equipment is provided, so there is no initial outlay to worry about.”
The summer season was started by welcoming the Mayor Councillor Louise Clubley, accompanied by past Mayor, Councillor Pamela Bryant, to cast the Jack and bowl the first wood to officially open the summer season. More than 70 members and guests came along to support this event.

Attendees were also entertained by local drumming band, DrumNation Tribe, led by a fellow member of the Fareham Bowls club, Jo Bonsor, creating a great vibe for the BBQ and to kick-start the summer season.
President David Bane continued: “It was an honour to welcome both Mayor Louise and her mother, Councillor Bryant to the club to officially open the season. We are looking forward to a great summer of bowls competitions, friendlies with other clubs, plus plenty of social events throughout the year for our members to enjoy.”
Bob Alger, Treasurer and also a coach at the club said: “We love to give people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to give bowling a try. If you missed the come and try day this year, please give me a call on 07758 801739 and book onto a session and give bowls a try. You never know it might be the perfect sport for you.”
