Denmead care home's gentleman's club goes plane spotting

At Denmead Grange Care Home they have fun, it's all about living a great life.

There is something powerful about a group of gents getting together, sharing time and space, an interest, indeed for some a passion and doing it as ‘just the fella’s’. As the Denmead Grange Gentleman’s Club say – what happens in the club stays in the club!

But on this occasion, they have some evidence that they are happy to share! The gents took the Denmead Grange minibus down to Lee on Solent where they disembarked at the Café at Zero 5. From there they were able to watch the take off and landing of many planes and the highlight was a helicopter landing meters away from them.

One of the residents was able to share his knowledge of runway lights systems from his days as an Air Traffic Controller, making the trip enlightening and even more special. Another resident has a son who is a pilot and another one the gentlemen reminisced about flying experiences with his friend. The event was popular, enjoyable and certainly a great way to spend a spring morning.

General Manager Abbie Johnston said ‘Our residents have had a great time. As General Manager I know that trips like this are hugely important, our gentleman residents do enjoy time together and having a trip where they all shared an interest and passion is an approach we have to person centred support and facilitating the most enjoyable and engaging triips. We get to know our residents so really know what they enjoy. I am so proud to see everyone had a great time and to hear all about the highlights upon their return.’’
