Community showcase and a cuppa – Portsmouth invited to join us this Friday
Community invited to take part in a community event
Community Kettle is calling on the people of Portsmouth to come together this Friday for a Community Showcase designed to spark connection, curiosity, and a sense of belonging. The doors will be open, the kettle will be on, and everyone is warmly encouraged to drop in, explore, and get involved.

The volunteer‑run hub, known for its welcoming atmosphere and inclusive approach, is bringing together a wide range of local organisations, charities, and grassroots groups for a morning dedicated to connection, discovery, and community pride.
Founder Nicole says the event is about making it easier for people to find what’s happening around them — especially at a time when many feel isolated or unsure where to start.
“We want people to walk in, feel instantly welcome, and realise they’re part of something bigger,” she said. “This event is about showing Portsmouth what’s out there — the support, the friendships, the activities, the joy. If you’ve ever wondered what’s happening locally or you’re looking for a place to start, this is the perfect moment to come along.”
Visitors will be able to browse information stands, chat with local groups, and explore opportunities ranging from creative clubs and wellbeing activities to social groups, advice services, and volunteering roles. The aim is to bring the city’s community offer into one friendly, accessible space.
Community Kettle will be joined by a variety of local organisations, including SEND Butterflies (South Coast), Cosham Community Larder, The Hive, and Paulsgrove ARC, each offering their own unique contribution to Portsmouth’s wellbeing and community life.
Organiser Brenda Webb says the showcase is needed now more than ever.
“So many people don’t realise what’s happening right on their doorstep,” she explained. “I’m part of a local bowls group, and it’s a brilliant, friendly place — but lots of people simply don’t know it exists. It’s the same across the city.
"There are so many fantastic groups and activities, but unless you stumble across them, you might never know they’re there. That’s why this showcase is so important. Community Kettle has so many groups involved, and many of them are joining us today. For example, did you know we have a model train group that meets monthly? Or a writing group that welcomes beginners and seasoned writers alike? There’s so much happening, and this event is a chance for people to discover it all in one place.”
The event is free, open to all ages, and designed to help residents find connection, support, and a sense of belonging — whether they’re looking for a new hobby, a friendly space, or simply a warm drink and a chat.
