Alan Mak MP Off The Fence column: Engaging with local residents is a top priority

Alan Mak, Havant MP

Earlier this month I hosted my 11th annual Havant Constituency Community & Volunteering Fair at Springwood Community Centre in Stakes.

Visitors were able to meet representatives from a range of local organisations, charities, clubs and other community groups.

I've organised the Community & Volunteering Fair every year since I was elected as MP for Havant in 2015.

Over that time it has been a pleasure to provide a platform in the community for a variety of exhibitors to showcase what they can offer.

Now we look ahead to my 5th annual Health & Sports Fair on Friday 26 June at St Joseph's Church, Havant and my 11th annual Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair on Friday 23 October at Leigh Park Centre.

The Fairs run from 10am-noon and admission is free. Residents can drop in at any time, and you can stay for as long or as little time as you want.

Engaging with local residents is a top priority for me as MP and that's why I hold surgeries and Q&A public meetings all year round.

The Q&As take place both in Parliament as part of my regular tours for constituents and also across the Havant Constituency.

At my latest Q&A I fielded questions on a variety of local and national issues at St Joseph's Church parish hall in Havant.

For details of future Q&As and to register your interest in attending, please go to www.alanmak.org.uk/PublicMeeting.

I'm also holding a series of informal 'Tea With Your MP' events with local community groups.

I recently visited Park Community School in Leigh Park and chatted with parents and pupils over a cuppa, while another visit was to Blossom House Care Home on Hayling Island.

Would you like to go on a tour of Parliament and meet me for a Q&A session? The next one with available spaces is on 15 June. Please register your interest at www.alanmak.org.uk/Tours.

The best ways to stay up to date with the work I'm doing as your local MP all year round are to follow my social media accounts, especially Facebook (www.fb.com/AlanMakHavant), and sign up for my weekly residents' email newsletter at www.alanmak.org.uk/newsletter.

I'm providing free St. George and Union flags to constituents and encourage you to fly them to celebrate all that's great about our country. To get yours, apply online at www.alanmak.org.uk/Flag.

You can also share your views on local and national issues with me by completing my online survey at www.alanmak.org.uk/Survey
