Portsmouth Christmas lights switch-on events return with festive markets - details and dates
The countdown to Christmas is beginning with Portsmouth again set to host three fantastic festive lights switch-on events in the city.
Taking place in Cosham, Southsea and the city centre, the three events this year - all hosted by Greatest Hits’ Mark Collins - coincide with the return of the spectacular We Shine Portsmouth illuminations festival to ensure a calendar of sparkling events for residents to enjoy.
The first of three events will take place in Palmerston Road, Southsea, on Thursday, November 21 from 5pm 7pm with a line-up featuring Portsmouth FC manager John Mousinho. As the excitement builds on stage, there is also the chance to do a little Christmas shopping at the Love Southsea market which will also be running the same day.
The Southsea event will be followed by Cosham Carols in Cosham High Street on Friday, November 22 from 5pm to 6.30pm. The festive fun then culminates with the city centre switch-on event on Saturday, November 23 in Commercial Road which will also host the popular Christmas market and the We Create Market at Pitt Street Skatepark.
All three events will feature both Pompey and panto stars - as well as a special visit from Father Christmas.
The events will all take place at the same time as We Shine on November 21, 22 and 23 from 5pm to 9pm with stunning interactive light-based artwork on display at St Mary’s Church, Victoria Park and Hilsea Lido.
Fratton Together’s popular Lantern Parade, culminating in a vibrant procession through the area, will also be taking place on the evening of November 22.
