'Magical' illuminated train is coming to Hampshire in time for Christmas
A ‘magical’ illuminated train is coming to a railway in Hampshire this winter.
Steam Illuminations will be taking to the tracks on the Mid Hants Railway Watercress Line from November until January 2021.

It promises to offer a ‘unique, world first, pixel mappable digital LED train’.
On the Mid Hants Railway website it adds: ‘It's an incredible light show on and in a steam train, consisting of 13,174 fully controllable colour mixing LED lights and LED wristbands. This makes the train look magical both inside and out!
‘Marvel at the wonderful light show with different colours and flashing patterns, whilst sitting back and relaxing on one of our steam trains as it travels up and down our 10 mile line. You will have a chance to see the outside of the train at the start, middle and end of your journey to capture it by camera.’
Everyone who takes a trip on the train will be given an LED wristband – included in the price of your ticket - to wear on the journey and take home after the event.
Popular and traditional music will play along with the lights to enhance your experience.
Trains depart from either Alresford or Alton and complete a round trip, back to the starting station.
Trips are available on the following dates:
- November 14
- November 28-29
- December 4-6
- December 11-23
- December 27-31
- January 1-3, 2021
Warning: This event consists of many flashing lights so may be unsuitable for people suffering from epilepsy.
