Hampshire outdoor swimming pool among UK’s best 'hidden' adds to its magical twilight experiences
A swimming pool in Hampshire, named as one of the best ‘hidden’ outdoor swimming experiences in the UK, is now offering magical twilight swim and supper sessions.
Petersfield Open Air Swimming Pool in Heath Road is a fantastic heated 25m outdoor pool which is open every day from late April to mid-September, weather permitting and has recently unveiled its revamped changing rooms.
The pool has previously been named as one of the most secluded lidos in the country, taking the number six spot in the survey commissioned by bath retailer Showers to You which looked at a number of the country’s nicest outdoor pools and lidos and examined the volume of Instagram posts for each.
This month it has begun offering something new to its magical after-dark swims with a 60 minute swim (for the first hour of the session you book) followed by a hot supper from flatbread street food supremos Earth to Oven, accompanied by a drink from our bar, soft drink or hot drink. This is taking place on alternate summer Wednesday evenings with regular ‘after dark’ swims on the other Wednesdays.
The amazing outdoor pool offers everything you will need this summer for a fantastic swimming experience including hot showers and individual changing rooms - plus a big sun terrace with picnic benches and table and chairs. The deep end is 3m and there is a springboard and there is also cafe facilities on site. A general swim costs £8 for an adult and £6 for a child, with other pricing options available.
However there is no disabled hoist, with swimmers needing this facility urged to use the nearby Taro pool, and the baby/toddler pool remains out of action as it is not compliant with new regulations on filtration and drainage.
The boilers at the pool are turned off mid September, with weekend ‘cool swims’ available until it closes for the year. Parking is available in the pay and display carpark immediately outside and it is a short walk from the town centre.
