Community to celebrate Castle Road pedestrianisation and Portsmouth centenary with fun-filled fete
Fun-filled fete arranged to celebrate street’s pedestrianisation
Having fully reopened at the end of March, the Southsea community is coming together to celebrate pedestrianisation of Castle Road.
A fun-filled community fete is taking place on the street on Sunday, April 26 between 11am and 5pm with a range of performances and activities. It will be a dual celebration as the Castle Road Community Association takes the opportunity to celebrate Portsmouth’s centenary.

The fete will have a dance performance from the Bessie Cursons Academy and the Morris Men as well as music from Portsmouth City Band and Portsmouth City Choir. A number of traders will be in attendance with summer games and a biggest marrow competition.
Castle Road underwent a revamp beginning in October 2025 when work began on pedestrianising the street. It was officially reopened on March 23 with a new brick paving stretching from the Hambrook Street down to Southsea Common, with a central pathway.
