Southsea to feature in blockbuster film Project Hail Mary as release date looms after Ryan Gosling spotted filming in city

Rewind to October 13, 2025 - Southsea locals were in awe that Barbie star, Ryan Gosling, was filming on South Parade Pier for his latest film Project Hail Mary, which will take to cinema screens on Friday, March 20.

Donning a bright yellow rain jacket, the 45-year-old actor was spotted by eagle eyed onlookers after the popular pier was taken over by a sea of filming crew.

The Notebook actor, who most recenly starred in The Fall Guy with Emily Blunt last year, will be sharing the screen alongside Sandra Huller.

The film, which is an adaptation of the science fiction novel written by Andy Weir, follows Ryland Grace who wakes up with amnesia, where he slowly realises he was sent on a mission to reverse a solar dimming event that could result in the extinction of humanity.

During his time in the city, it was also believed Gosling was spotted filming in the Historic Dockyard, in Old Portsmouth.
