Who is Martin Kemp on I’m a Celebrity?
One of the names you may instantly recognise from the list this year, Martin Kemp started out as a musician before forging an acting career. He was the bassist in new wave band Spandau Ballet alongside his brother Gary.
He learned to play bass in three months after being asked to join his brother’s band called The Gentry. It went on to become Spandau Ballet and the group went on to have four top ten albums in the UK charts.
Martin performed with the band on the charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas? in 1984 alongside many other famous faces from the music world. The band split up in the 1990s.
Spandau Ballet eventually reformed in 2009 and embarked on a world tour, but in the time between the end of the band he had a spell on EastEnders. Martin played Steve Owens between 1998 and 2002, appearing in over 200 episodes of the soap.
He is the father of radio host and TV personality Roman Kemp as well as a daughter called Harley Moon. His children are currently competing on Celebrity Race Across the World on the BBC.
Martin and his wife Shirlie Kemp appeared on The Masked Singer in 2023. They were under the masks of Cat & Mouse.
