Film lovers rejoice as No6 Cinema returns to Portsmouth city centre

Screenings will take place every Thursday and Friday evening

Independent cinema No6 Cinema is re-opening at the Eldon Building, bringing a “cosy film club-like” vibe to the city centre.

After taking a hiatus, the cinema will reopen at the University of Portsmouth building on October 22, and will host screenings every Thursday and Friday evening.

The cinema aims to screen a wide variety of films to appeal to all tastes and to introduce audiences to new works and genres.

The first film to be shown upon opening on October 22 will be the 1959 classic Some Like It Hot in tribute to the centenary of star Marilyn Monroe’s birth.

The cinema previously operated out of Boathouse 6 at the Historic Dockyard, but has had to move its operations while the building undergoes refurbishment.

Frederika Latif, the chair of No6 Cinema said: “We are very pleased to announce that No6 Cinema will be opening on Thursday 22nd October.

“In terms of our return to the Dockyard, we can only at this stage say that we are in contact with the team there, following the progress, which looks to be an amazing new attraction for the dockyard.

“We will of course update our customers as and when we hear anything.”
