Giuda at The Glasshouse, Southsea REVIEW: 'They came, they saw, they conquered'

When one thinks of glam-rock, one probably thinks first of stack heels, outrageous outfits and sexually ambiguous guys before the actual music.

But the music of Slade, T-Rex, The Sweet et al has endured, its stomping beats and singalong choruses have entered pop-culture’s DNA.

And Giuda, the Italian five-piece have definitely taken the influence of its sound rather than its look onboard.

Throw in a hefty dose of punk swagger, and you’ve got a band whose demeanour suggests you wouldn’t want to mess with them.

Four albums in they’ve become something of a cult concern in the UK – enough to draw a few hundred curious souls, and some definite hardcore fans, out on a cold January night.

While they sing in English, the band don’t actually say anything at all directly to the crowd until a ‘Thank you’ at the very end. The songs come in a continual barrage of riffs and that driving glam beat, with barely a pause for breath between songs.

The sheer exuberance and enthusiasm of the performance, particularly from frontman Tenda, definitely wins over a few new fans for these boys from Rome

To paraphrase Julius Caesar, they came, they saw, they conquered.
