Brown Eyed Girl singer Van Morrison to perform at Wickham Festival 2020

LEGENDARY singer-songwriter Van Morrison will be performing at Wickham Festival later this year, it has been announced.

As tickets go on sale for this year’s festival, taking place from August 6-9, organisers have announced that the global superstar will top the bill on the Saturday.

The Northern Irish performer, known for songs such as Brown Eyed Girl, Gloria and Moondance, recently sold out six nights at the London Palladium.

Festival organiser Peter Chegwyn said: ‘This is absolutely massive for us – and for the village.

'It will be very special to have such a rock and roll icon coming to Wickham.

‘Van Morrison is one of the biggest names not just in British music but across the world. He has been one of the most influential singer-songwriters in the business for many decades and it is a real privilege to have him here.’

Now 74 years old, Van Morrison has a whole host of accolades to his name, including a knighthood, an OBE, a Brit, six Grammys and an entry on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Last year he released a new album, Three Chords and the Truth, to critical acclaim.

Other acts announced for the festival include Queen’s keyboard player Spike Edney and his SAS Band; Seth Lakeman; Leo Sayer and Nine Below Zero, among others.

‘Once again it is an incredibly strong line-up with a mix of up and coming artists, long-standing Wickham favourites and some big stars,’ Peter added.

‘It’s a formula which works well and has fans travelling to this tiny village from all over the world because they know there will be top quality music and just as importantly the family-friendly atmosphere will never change.

‘It really is a unique event in that respect.’

Weekend tickets are on sale for £160 per adult, or £80 each for under 16s.

Under 10s are admitted into the festival for free.

Day tickets will also be available at £45 per adult for the Thursday, £55 for the Friday, £75 for the Saturday and £60 for the Sunday.
