Knight: Havant were better team but poor second half was so costly against Cobham

Will Knight was left frustrated as Havant ran out of steam to lose 39-21 at Cobham.

The visitors faded badly in the final 15 minutes of the London one south contest during which time they conceded four tries.

Knight insisted the final score failed to tell the whole story of the match.

The Havant head coach said: '˜On paper it looks like we took a bit of a beating but nothing could be further than the truth.

'˜It is another game that got away from us.

'˜Overall I felt we were the better team in an exciting game where both teams wanted to play rugby.

'˜We started well and looked to have the game in our control.

'˜A poor second-half performance cost us in the end.

'˜When the game got close our lack of confidence from not winning games came into play.

'˜It is extremely frustrating, not only for the coaches but also the players.

'˜They know they are better than their second-half display.

'˜At times they showed their quality with some excellent rugby.

'˜When they did we scored some quality tries.

'˜Picking up a yellow card towards the end didn't help our cause.'

The visitors made a powerful start to the game.

Good structured rugby saw Havant force a line-out.

When the ball was thrown to the back Armundus Morgan powered over for a try.

Gareth Davis converted and soon added a penalty to give his side a 10-0 lead.

Cobham hit back to level matters but another Davis penalty and a Joel Knight try saw Havant go in leading 18-10 at the break.

Another Davis penalty soon after the restart seemed to point the way to a Havant win.

Will Knight added: '˜At that point we looked in charge.

'˜Then a poor clearance kick and a couple of missed tackles let them back into the game.'

Hooker Jerome Trail was yellow carded with 10 minutes to play for a deliberate knock-on.

The home side exploited this to score three more tries before the end.

Knight added: '˜There is still a lot of work to do in order to climb up the league.

'˜We are realistic about where we are at the moment.

'˜Our team is struggling to find its rhythm.

'˜All through the season we have played some good rugby but lack the confidence that comes with winning.

'˜We will keep working at it and are convinced the results will come.

'˜Our game against Sevenoaks at Hooks Lane on Saturday is a big one.

'˜They have just beaten the league leaders so we know we will have to be focused.'
