Three Counties Bowls Celebrates 50 Years of Bowling

We are celebrating 50 years of the Three Counties Bowls Fellowshio this year with our event in Clanfield from 10am until 5pm on Tuesday 31st March 2026.
The Three Counties Bowls Fellowship will celebrate its 50th anniversary at 10am on Tuesday 31 March 2026 at Clanfield Bowls Club, marking half a century of friendly competition, community spirit and a shared love of the great game of lawn bowls. The Three Counties Bowls Fellowship are beginning their Golden Jubilee by having the Golden Jubilee Trophy and showcasing the game of lawn bowls involving member clubs with men, women and younger people competing in teams of 4.
Founded in 1976, the Fellowship has brought together bowlers from across the three counties of West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire for five decades, creating lasting friendships while promoting one of Britain’s most enjoyable and accessible sports. What began as a small inter county bowls initiative has grown into a valued and enduring part of the local sporting calendar.
Our anniversary event starting with the Golden Jubilee Trophy on Tuesday 31st March 2026 at Clanfield Bowls Club will bring together current members, past players and supporters to celebrate the league’s rich history and recognise the many volunteers and bowlers who have helped it thrive over the years.
The Golden Jubilee Trophy will look back with pride and look forward to the future as we encourage the next generation to discover the game.
Lawn bowls is sometimes viewed as a traditional pastime for older generations, but today’s game is welcoming players of all ages. It is a sport that combines skill, strategy and social interaction, and it can be enjoyed recreationally or competitively. All of our Three Counties member clubs actively encourage families, young adults and teenagers to take part by holding open days for new members.
Bowls offers a rare combination of accessible sport, fresh air, gentle physical activity and strong community connections. It can be played by people of almost any age or ability, making it one of the most inclusive sports in the country. You will walk around half a mile during a bowls match and it’s a game that isn’t about being big or strong or fast but is about tactics, skill and accuracy.
As it celebrates its golden anniversary, the Three Counties Bowls Fellowship hopes the milestone will shine a spotlight on the sport and inspire more people particularly younger players to give bowls a try.
Local bowls clubs are always keen to welcome newcomers, whether they are looking for a new hobby, a social activity or a competitive sport. Bowls is inexpensive compared to a lot of other sports and you can pick up a pair of great second hand bowls for around ?40.
The Fellowship’s 50 year celebration at Clanfield Bowls Club will recognise the league’s history while reaffirming its commitment to keeping the sport vibrant and growing for the next generation
