Havant potter Jamie Wilson exits Scottish Open at first round stage

Havant snooker starlet Jamie Wilson bowed out of the Scottish Open after being beaten in the first round by Martin O'Donnell.

The 17-year-old was eventually defeated 4-2 by the world number 38 Englishman at the competition that is being held in Milton Keynes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Just as he did in a UK Championship first round defeat to Mark Allen last month, Wilson picked up the opening frame against O’Donnell.

But, as was the case against former Masters champion Allen, the former Park Community pupil would come up short in his bid for a first professional victory.Although he did manage to pull level with O'Donnell at 2-2 after he had hit breaks of 53 and 89 to go in front.

It was the 34-year-old's experience that shone through in the end, eventually taking it 4-2.

No doubt there were some positives to take for Wilson, though, who only secured a place on the main tour earlier this year.
