Sheree’s hat-trick takes Moneyfields top – but Portsmouth Women’s home postponement frustrations go on

Sheree Bell-Jack fired a hat-trick as Moneyfield Ladies stormed to the top of the Southern Region Premier Division.

She struck twice in the first 25 minutes of a 6-2 win at rock bottom Warsash - Moneys’ eighth successive league victory.

Karl Watson’s side are now top on goal difference from AFC Bournemouth, and still have a game in hand.

Nicole Matthew scored twice in the space of three minutes before half-time with sub Paige Seeley and Bell-Jack on target in the second half.

‘I rested six regulars but we still played some lovely football,’ said Watson, who is targeting a third successive promotion in 2019/20 – one that would take them into the National League divisions.

Moneyfields now have two cup games at Dover Road - a League Cup tie with Ascot this coming Sunday and a Hampshire Senior Cup semi final with Southampton FC on Wednesday, January 29.

Moneys were formed at the same time as Southampton prior to the start of the 2017/18 season, and remain the only team to ever beat them in a league game.

Southampton - the women’s team of the Premier League club - play a division higher than Moneys in Division 1 South West of the National League and are managed by English women’s football legend Marianne Spacey.

They are currently top, two points ahead of Southampton Women - who Moneys beat 3-2 in the quarter finals of the Hampshire Cup this season.

Portsmouth Women were left kicking their heels again after a scheduled home game with Cardiff City on Sunday was postponed.

That was the team’s seventh PMC Stadium postponement of the season, and has left them having played just seven of their 22 National League Southern Premier fixtures.

Of those, just three have taken place at home - the last on September 22. Since then, Jay Sadler’s side have played at home just once, against Leyton Orient in a League Cup tie on December 8.

Their next two games are due to be at home - against Gillingham in the league on January 26 and against Southampton FC in the League Cup quarter finals on February 2.
