Pure quality - attacker’s class lauded after Portsmouth exit
Reeco Hackett-Fairchild’s talent has been lauded after a match-winning Southend debut.
The Pompey attacker had a bow to remember grabbing the only goal of the game, as the Shrimpers continued their resurgence with a 1-0 win over Barrow.
Hackett-Fairchild agreed a loan stay at Roots Hall until the end of the season this week after picking up National League game time at Bromley this term.
And the 22-year-old was quick to make his mark as he struck after three minutes, burying a peach of a drive from the edge of the box after some neat footwork.
Southend dug in to secure the three points after former Pompey defender Greg Halford’s second-half dismissal, with Mark Molesley’s side continuing their charge towards safety in doing so.
Molesley saluted Hackett-Fairchild’s impact in not only winning the game, but putting in the graft needed for his side to see out the win.
He told Southend reporter Chris Phillips: ‘It was a moment of pure quality from Reeco but it wasn’t just the goal I was impressed with.

‘I was impressed with his work-rate to win the ball back high up the pitch as well.’
