Pompey travel to Adams Park on Friday (January 9) to face Wycombe Wanderers in an FA Cup third round tie.
As a result of their second-tier status, Pompey enter at the third round stage like Premier League clubs, while Wycombe have already had to go through two rounds. The Chairboys overcame York City in the first round, and then navigated their way past Wealdstone at the end of November.
Pompey and Wycombe met last season, with John Mousinho's side doing the double over them. A 2-1 win came at Fratton Park in October 2023, which was then followed by a 3-1 win at Adams Park in March.
The two teams have mainly met with one another in the league, both in League One and League Two. They did play each other in the FA Cup back in November 2016, with Wycombe running out 2-1 winners.
Blues boss John Mousinho is expected to make wholesale changes to his team for tonight’s game. He’ll also have to make do without skipper Marlon Pack, who is serving a one-match ban following his red card in Sunday’s Championship defeat at the hands of Sunderland.

5. Conor Shaughnessy - out
He has torn tendons in each of his calves and twice broken down during attempted returns. Due to return to training next week, but won't make an appearance this month. Photo: Jason Brown

6. Conor Shaughnessy - out (continued)
John Mousinho said: "Conor should be training with us at the back end of next week. Now that’s the return to training, the return to play is a different story with him. ‘If he trains next week, there is no way he is back returning to play before the start of February because he's been out for such a long time. You must always take that into account. "If you are out for four months, you’re probably looking at four weeks, maybe not even quite that extreme with Conor, but probably in and around that timescale." | Jason Brown/ProSportsImages

7. Regan Poole - out
There's no timeframe for Regan Poole's return. He's missed the last six games with a hamstring issue, but since then he's got a calf problem, which has delayed his return. | National World

8. Regan Poole - out (continued)
John Mousinho said: "With Regan, it’s all related because with ACLs the knee is strong and has the graft in there. The recurrence rate is much lower ACLs than they used to be because of how they do the surgery, but you do take a bit of tendon from the hamstring to make the graft and that has a knock-on effect. ‘We’re loathe to put a timescale on it because we’ve been stung this season when players don’t come back in time. It’s not the fault of anyone’s, it’s just that there’s been a setback here and there. | Jason Brown/ProSportsImages
