The Blues travel to Ipswich in the first round of the FA Cup. It’s the tie of the round, according to Kenny Jackett, as he tries to plot his side’s way into the second stage of the historic competition.
Pompey have had plenty of success in cup competitions in recent years. Last term, they made it all the way to the fifth round before being defeated by Premier League heavyweights Arsenal.
But some fans feel the knockout tournaments have hindered the Blues’ promotion chances, having been defeated in the play-off semi-finals in the past two seasons.
So will Jackett opt to ring the changes from the 3-1 victory at Lincoln City on Tuesday? We’ve predicted his starting line-up and his bench to face Ipswich below.

5. Left-back - Cam Pring
Did well when he had to replace Lee Brown late on at Lincoln and will aim to build on that performance. Photo: Nigel Keene

6. Right-midfield - Ryan Williams
In the form of his Pompey career at the moment and deserves a goal for his high-class performances. Photo: Nigel Keene

7. Centre-midfield - Tom Naylor
Came off with cramp at Lincoln but should be fine to play. It's feasible Naylor might not be risked but there's no-on else who offers same energy and steel to come into the side. Photo: Jason Brown

8. Centre-midfield - Andy Cannon
Really enjoying his spell in the team. Another who might have been rested had their not been a game in the EFL Trophy next week. Photo: Jason Brown
