Vote now for your The News/Sports Mail Portsmouth player of the season for 2025/26

Voting is now open for The News/Sports Mail Pompey player of the season award

It’s that time of the year again when we need you, our trusted Portsmouth News reader, to decide this season’s Pompey player of the season.

Converted full-back Terry Devlin cleaned up at last week’s Pompey end-of-season awards by taking home both the player of the year and players’ player of the year gongs at the gala event held at Fratton Park.

Now it’s your turn to decide who takes home the prestigious The News/Sports Mail award, which was won in 2025 by Josh Murphy following his record of seven goals and 14 assists during his maiden season on the south coast.

Those impressive figures helped the Blues retain their Championship status for another year. And while John Mousinho’s side are still not 100-percent over the line in terms of securing another season in the second tier, you’ll find few fans who believe a return to League One remains a serious risk following three wins on the spin against Middlesbrough, Ipswich Town and Leicester City.

All 37 players who Pompey have utilised over the course of the current season have played their part in getting the Blues into a position where their Championship safety is all but secure.

However, there can only be one winner of our prize - and that’s why we need you to decide which name should be engraved onto our The News/Sports Mail Pompey player of the season trophy.

There’s no doubt Devlin will be in many fans’ minds after the Northern Ireland international was asked to step in at right-back against Wrexham back in November and ended up making the position his own after a string of impressive performances that were also accompanied by the odd spectacular goal.

However, 2025-26 also saw Zak Swanson come of age in a Blues shirt as he proved his worth in a number of positions, including left-back.

Regan Poole was a model of consistency at the back as he continued to put his body on the line for Pompey. The former Lincoln defender has also played more minutes for Pompey this season than any other member of Mousinho’s squad.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Marlon Pack has put himself into contention after his impressive performances in midfield in recent months, proving he has plenty of fire left in his belly as he approaches the end of his latest Blues contract.

Whoever wins, though, is entirely up to you. And all you have to do is simply send an email to [email protected] (subject: POTY) with the name of your top choice.

The winner will be presented with The News/Sports Mail trophy before the final game of the season against Birmingham City on Saturday, May 2.

All votes must be received by midday on Wednesday, April 29.
