This is lengthy wait chief executive expects Portsmouth, Coventry, Sunderland, Ipswich Town & Co will have before outcome to League One season is known
Mark Catlin believes clubs will not know the outcome to the League One season until next month.
And the Pompey chief executive has aired concerns the voting process to decide League One’s fate will hinder the prospect of completing the season on the pitch.
The EFL has decreed clubs will choose between finishing the third-tier term in the traditional fashion and curtailing the campaign and deciding positions on an unweighted points per game model.
Clubs have until the end of Tuesday to register their thoughts before the EFL board reconvene on Wednesday and voting papers can be conceivably issued.
But league regulations state there’s a five-day period for club to vote - meaning the saga is set to rumble on into June.
Such a time frame puts pressure on the stated target of completing the season by the end of July.
Catlin said: ‘There’s no date on the vote but I believe under the regulations once voting papers are issued there’s a five-day period to allow people to vote.
‘So another one of my big concerns in trying to finish the season is that clubs have been asked to submit their opinions by close of play on Tuesday next week.

‘Let’s assume papers are produced Wednesday or Thursday, we’re probably not going to know the results until the week after next.
‘That really then makes it difficult to complete the season given the timing of 56 days and a period needed to train and get the players back to some level of fitness.’
