In total, 11 members of the Blues’ squad, as things stand, will be rendered free agents on July 1.
They are Tom Naylor, Andy Cannon, Craig MacGillivray, Jack Whatmough, Ben Close, Ryan Williams, Haji Mnoga, Jordy Hiwula, Charlie Daniels, Duncan Turnbull and Bryn Morris.
Even though many have expressed their desire to stay at PO4, it’d be naive to think that rival clubs aren’t carefully watching the situation unravel.
Naylor, MacGillivray, Cannon, Whatmough and Williams have been regulars all season and will have their admirers.
But on the other hand, the Blues will also be keeping tabs on rivals players in the division whose contracts are nearing their conclusions.
The likes of MacGillivray, Naylor, Williams and Lee Brown were all recruited on free transfers in recent seasons and proved hits.
There are some big names who are out of contract at the season’s end in League One.
It would be fanciful to think the likes of Charlie Wyke, Luke O’Nien (both Sunderland) and Siriki Dembele (Peterborough) could be prised to Fratton Park. Players of that ilk will be off to established Championship teams if their respective clubs don’t get promoted.
Yet are some highly-regarded players who may well be tempted by a switch to the south coast. Here’s a look at some of them...

1. Dion Charles - Accrington
The striker has enjoyed a prolific season for Accrington, scoring 18 goals in 39 appearances and recently received a call-up to the Northern Ireland squad. Photo: Gareth Copley

2. Ryan Wintle - Crewe
The midfielder is a product ofAlexandra's renowned youth system and scored twice in 41 appearances this season. He's highly regarded and was linked with Newcastle earlier this season. Photo: Pete Norton

3. Chuks Aneke - Charlton
Another name Pompey have had on their radar previously. The striker has scored 13 times in 34 games for the Addicks this season and has a terrific goals-per-minute ratio. Photo: James Chance

4. Connor Ogilvie - Gillingham
Pompey were linked with the left-back last summer. The Blues, as things stand, will need another left-sided full-back with Charlie Daniels' short-term deal expiring at the season's end. Photo: Jason Brown
