The inflation-busting price hike Portsmouth faithful must pay to attend Norwich game at Carrow Road

Pompey head to Norwich in the Championship on Saturday, October 11, with the game kicking off at 3pm

Pompey fans planning to purchase tickets for the Blues’ trip to Norwich City next month will have to dig deeper into their pockets to attend.

That’s because the Canaries have upped the price of entry to the game by staggering 15.6 per cent from the last time the Fratton faithful travelled to Carrow Road in April.

Back then, an adult was charged £32 to watch on as John Mousinho’s side ended a three-match losing streak by securing a precious 1-1 draw against their hosts.

But fast forward nearly six months and your average Pompey supporter will be expected to fork out £37 to get into Carrow Road on Saturday, October 17.

That’s five times more than the current rate of inflation, which was reported to be 3.1 per cent in August.

The current prices are more concerning, though, for those Blues supporters who fall into the over-64 and under-21 category, plus those fans under the age of 18 and 14.

The price hike for those aged 64+ and 21 and below has risen from £22 to £27, which represents a 22.73 per cent increase.

That’s replicated for those supporters who fall into the under-18 bracket, who are now being asked to buy a Carrow Road away ticket at £22 instead of £17.

Meanwhile, the percentage increase for under-12s is 16.7 per cent, with their ticket jumping from the £12 price that was being charged on Good Friday to £14 ahead of next month’s fixture.

The new prices identified fall in line with Norwich’s grading of the game, which this season has a category A status.

The Canaries also justified its pricing structure in a response to a social media post uploaded onto X by @TicketsPompey, who initially raised the issue.

Replying, @NorwichCityHelp, the official supporters’ relations account for the club on X, said: ‘Hi - matches are graded based on a number of factors. Saturday 3pm kick-offs will generally be a higher grade than evening games or bank holiday fixtures’.

Pompey have been allocated just over 2,000 tickets for the game, with those going on sale from 10am on Thursday, September 24.

In addition, Norwich fans will pay the exact same prices to be seated in the home end.

At Fratton Park this season, an adult away supporter will be expected to pay £32 for his match-day entry (bar Southampton), which presents a price increase of 6.25 per cent.
