Luke Chambers and Josh Magennis put Wigan 2-0 up and this time there was to be no dramatic comeback.
Substitute Kusini Yengi did his best, netting with five minutes to go, but despite plenty of late chances, and Sam Tickle’s saves, it represented a first defeat in 18 matches.
Nonetheless, Pompey are League One champions – and here are our player ratings...
13. Myles Peart-Harris - 6
(Replaced Callum Lang on 46 mins) A couple of flashes but not enough. One good late header was saved by Tickle, but otherwise the quietest of the substitutes. Photo: Jason Brown
14. Paddy Lane - 7
(Replaced Abu Kamara on 46 mins) No sign of a hangover, which is impressive considering. Bright and full of attacking ideas on the right. Photo: Jason Brown
15. Tino Anjorin - 7
(Replaced by Owen Moxon on 63 mins) Another strong performance since coming back from injury. Keeper saved one fierce stoppage-time shot. Photo: Jason Brown
16. Kusini Yengi - 7
(Replaced Christian Saydee on 63 mins) Can never keep him out of the headlines. Another goal, finishing from close range after Tickle had saved Bishop's shot. Photo: Jason Brown
