Luke Chambers and Josh Magennis put Wigan 2-0 up and this time there was to be no dramatic comeback.
Substitute Kusini Yengi did his best, netting with five minutes to go, but despite plenty of late chances, and Sam Tickle’s saves, it represented a first defeat in 18 matches.
Nonetheless, Pompey are League One champions – and here are our player ratings...
5. Connor Ogilvie - 7
(Replaced by Jack Sparkes on 77 mins) Went about his business with the minimum of fuss and there were a couple of forays down the left in attacking positions. Photo: Jason Brown
6. Marlon Pack - 7
Received 12 Player of the Season awards before the match to cap a magnificent captain. The skipper was again the driving force from midfield and had a good shot saved late on. Photo: Jason Brown
7. Owen Moxon - 7
(Replaced by Tino Anjorin on 63 mins) Recalled to the side and covered plenty of ground with a tireless midfield display. Some good moments on the ball in an encouraging display. Photo: Jason Brown
8. Abu Kamara - 6
(Replaced by Paddy Lane on 46 mins) Looked leggy and tired, failing to get into the match from the right wing. Irrespective of that usual spark missing, it has still been an outstanding season. Photo: Jason Brown
