But beyond the 14 signings Danny Cowley made, there was also a huge number of players linked with a move to Fratton Park who ended up elsewhere.
We’ve steered clear of the ridiculous number of triallists who came into the club when they returned to training – otherwise the list would’ve been through the roof...

25. Owen Dale
Cited as a possible replacement for Ronan Curtis, the Crewe winger attracted interest from League One’s top sides. With Curtis not leaving Fratton Park no deal was necessary for the 22-year-old and after making 109 appearances and scoring 15 goals, Dale left Crewe on deadline day signing for Championship newcomers Blackpool - where he's since made two appearances for the Tangerines. 26. Jamie Allen
After falling down the pecking order at Coventry, midfielder Jamie Allen was wanted by a host of League One and Two clubs as the Sky Blues looked set to cash in on the 26-year-old, before his contract expired next year. In the event, Allen’s Coventry career has been rejuvenated as he has featured in four Championship games scoring one goal. Photo: Bradley Collyer

27. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson
Millwall’s Icelandic forward had interest from League One clubs after he fell down the pecking order at The Den. Bodvarsson has been capped 60 times for Iceland, but since his move to south east London has struggled to find the back of the net - scoring five goals in 69 Championship games. Linked with Pompey and so far this season, the 29-year-old forward has made a single Millwall appearance. Photo: Jacques Feeney

28. George Edmundson
A Pompey target under Kenny Jackett was once again linked to Pompey this summer after two years in Scotland. After a lack of playing time at Rangers a move away was inevitable with Danny Cowley keen. But Ipswich were able to offer more money meaning the deal was off, the 24-year-old central defender making a single appearance for the Tractor Boys due to an injury. Photo: Nigel French
