Accrington’s Colby Bishop and Cardiff’s James Collins were the latest names added to that list this week.
And while there’s hope a deal can be struck for the former, Pompey are already giving up hope of bringing the latter to Fratton Park.
But what about those other attackers rumoured to be on the Blues’ radar?
What’s happened to those prospective moves? Where are those players now?
Well, we’ve revisited them all to find out whether they can still come true, whether they’ve been consigned to the rumour mill bin or whether other clubs have since come in to ruin the Blues’ plans.

9. Kyle Joseph - Swansea
Pompey have been linked with the Swansea front man who joined from Wigan for £500,000 last summer. Danny Cowley would love to land the ex-Chelteham loanee on a permanent basis, with Swans boss Russell Martin open to offers. But with the Championship side looking to recoup the money they paid for Joseph a year ago, a loan deal is something Pompey are now likely to explore. 10. Morgan Whittaker - Swansea
Pompey's interest in Whittaker resembles that already outlined for Joseph. They're keen, Swansea are open to offers, but would want their money back after signing the versatile forward from Derby in 2021 for around £700,000. A loan looks the most likely route. 11. Luke Molyneux - Hartlepool
The forward was watched by Danny Cowley and his recruitment team last season as he bagged 12 goals on his way to being named both fans and players’ player of the season at Victoria Park. However, a decision was made not to pursue a move, with the former Sunderland striker since moving to Doncaster Rovers. Picture: Pete Norton/Getty Images Photo: Pete Norton

12. Victor Adeboyejo - Barnsley
Despite reports from elsewhere, it turns out the now ex-Barnsley front man was never on Pompey's radar. Picture: Jacques Feeney/Getty Images Photo: Jacques Feeney
