Sky Sport pundit has now changed mind on Portsmouth and Leicester City in Championship relegation battle

Don Goodman has been speaking to Portsmouth News about Pompey’s attempt to survive relegation from the Championship

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has shared his thoughts on the Championship relegation battle, giving his verdict on what he expects to happen in the battle between Portsmouth and their rivals.

Pompey have struggled mightily this season but picked up vital wins over Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town in their last two games to give them a bit of breathing space with four matches left in the campaign.

Goodman felt Pompey were in 'serious danger' before those results, but now, with the six points, he is questioning his previous views on Leicester City's hopes of avoiding the drop.

Goodman, speaking exclusively to Portsmouth.co.uk, thanks to Online Casino Zonder Cruks said: "Before they beat Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, a result that I could not see coming, even though Middlesbrough haven't been winning games of football recently, they've been the better side in pretty much every single game and been missing chance after chance after chance. At best, I foresaw Portsmouth getting a 0-0 draw,, but then they went up the other end and scored with, I think, their only shot on target, as they did at Fratton Park against Middlesbrough.

"Portsmouth have beaten Middlesbrough twice, 1-0, and had two shots on target, I believe, which is the most incredible set of scores anybody will ever get. So, before that game, I must confess, I felt Portsmouth were in real danger because they were struggling to score.

"I did their home game against Derby County the other Monday evening, and they could have still been playing now, and they wouldn't have scored, and I thought, oh my gosh, I'll be worried for you. And then I looked at their fixtures and the games they had to play, i.e., the likes of Middlesbrough and Ipswich; they've got to play Coventry yet.

"I was really worried for them, and it still may be that they're going to have to find a couple more points, but what they got on Saturday and then last night was a precious, precious six points.

"I actually thought Leicester would be the ones towards the bottom. I think Blackburn had done enough. I thought West Brom had just about done enough. And both of those probably need to win one of the last four, which I could see both of them doing.

"And that left it as a shootout between Portsmouth, Oxford, and Leicester for me. And I thought Leicester, with the quality of squad they've got, even though they haven't performed and functioned this season, if you offered me four games to go, one of those three squads, I'd have picked Leicester's obviously, and then they went and lost against Swansea at home on Saturday. Now I'm doubting myself about Leicester. So Portsmouth, it was a huge six points in the last two."
