Shock Portsmouth recall as Danny Cowley makes two changes for Swindon visit

Ben Close has made a shock Pompey return for their trip to Swindon.

But the Blues have failed in their bid to overturn Jack Whatmough’s red card against MK Dons – and he must now sit out four matches.

There had been fears Close could be ruled out for up to four weeks as Danny Cowley awaited the results of a scan on his injured groin.

However, the midfielder is declared fit enough to replace Harvey White alongside Tom Naylor in Pompey’s starting XI.

There is also a recall for Rasmus Nicolaisen, who comes in for Whatmough in the centre of defence.

White drops to the bench following his outing against MK Dons, while Cannon is also among the substitutes, despite being troubled by a back problem.

Pompey: MacGillivray, Johnson, Raggett, Nicolaisen, Daniels, Naylor, Close, Williams, Curtis, Harness, Marquis.

Subs: Ward, Bolton, Cannon, Byers, Downing, Stanley, White.
