We all have our opinions on the matter but The News has been keeping a record of each player’s performance levels with the help of our match ratings.
There’s been some reality checks dished out via our score system since the season began, with plenty of fives and sixes handed out as the Blues struggled early doors in the division.
Some might argue even those ratings were generous given the displays against Wigan and Doncaster Rovers – to name but two.
Meanwhile, the odd fan might disagree with Marcus Harness only getting a nine following his magnificent hat-trick against Burton.
Only he and Jack Whatmough have warranted such scores this season, proving that’s there’s room for improvement throughout the team if promotion is to be achieved this season.
So who is hot and who’s not this season so far, with the Blues currently sitting seventh in the table?
Well, let us assist you with the help of our average ratings from the Blues' 10 League One games to date.

13. Callum Johnson - 6.9
The former Accrington defender has slotted in nicely at right-back and has established himself as a Steady Eddie. Has played in all 10 games, with his 84th-minute withdrawal against Charlton on Saturday the only time he as missed match action so far. (6.9 rating) Photo: JPIMedia

14. Craig MacGillivray - 7.1
Keeper was named on bench for Pompey's first game of the season against Stevenage in the Carabao Cup. Replaced Alex Bass at half-time and hasn't looked back since. Has been an ever-present in the league. Will no doubt want to improve on his four clean sheets to date, though. (7.1 rating) Photo: JPIMedia

15. Marcus Harness - 7.2
Pompey's top scorer this season with seven goals - five of which have come in the league - and the Blues' most influential attacking player. Showed what he is capable of with that hat-trick against Burton but no doubt will want to improve on his record in front of goal. Looks a real threat every time he gets on the ball. 16. Sean Raggett - 7.2
Has provided us with plenty of nervous moments already this season, but Raggett nevertheless remains a key player in this team. Joins MacGillivray in being one of only two players to feature every minute of every league game to date. Will be even more important in Whatmough's absence in the coming weeks.
