Report: Portsmouth target Manny Monthe set to remain at Tranmere this month

Manny Monthe is looking ‘increasingly likely’ to remain at Tranmere come the end of the January transfer window, reports suggest.

Kenny Jackett identified Monthe as a potential recruit who would strengthen his rearguard.

The former Hawks and Forest Green defender met the criteria of being a left-footed centre-half who could bring the strength and solidity the Blues boss is currently looking for ahead of Friday's 11pm deadline.

Tranmere’s valuation of £750,000 for the 25-year-old, who’s scored three goals in 32 appearances this term, proved stumbling block to the deal accelerating, however.

And with the transfer window cut-off point soon approaching, the Liverpool Echo report Monthe is set to stay at Prenton Park to help Rovers in their League One relegation battle.

Pompey have so far recruited Steve Seddon and Cameron McGeehan on loan – from Birmingham and Barnsley respectively – for the remainder of the campaign, while Reeco Hackett-Fairchild was signed from Bromley for an undisclosed fee.

Anton Walkes has departed for MLS side Atlanta United for an undisclosed fee, while Luke McGee joined Bradford on loan.

The futures of out-of-favour duo Brett Pitman and Paul Downing also remain under the microscope.
