Report: Portsmouth rivals Bristol City's dealt blow as preferred managerial target turns down top Robins role
Bristol City’s hunt for a new manager is set to continue if the latest report about their search proves correct
Bristol City’s managerial search has taken another twist.
Bournemouth assistant manager Tommy Elphick, who emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant position at Ashton Gate, has reportedly turned down the job.
That’s according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, who claims the 38-year-old will instead remain with the Cherries and be part of new boss Marco Rose’s coaching set-up at the Vitality Stadium.
Prior to the former Brighton and Bournemouth defender coming through as the Robins’ preferred option, Pompey boss John Mousinho and Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala were considered the leading contenders.
Blues chief executive Andy Cullen has told The News on numerous occasions that they have never received an approach for Mousinho, who is also admired by Stoke City.
Last week it was reported that Skubala had been offered a new contract at Sincil Bank after guiding the Imps to promotion to the Championship.
Bristol City have been without a permanent manager since they decided to part company with Gerhard Struber in March.
Former England and Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson was appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season.
