‘No coincidence’: Promising Birmingham City verdict over Portsmouth target Keshi Anderson
Keshi Anderson was released by Birmingham City earlier in the January window, and he’s a player on Pompey’s radar.
Pompey have been handed a promising review over winger Keshi Anderson.
The Blues’ football operations are looking to accelerate their business in the remaining two weeks of the window, with two new faces already in the building.
Millenic Alli sealed a loan move from Luton Town for the remainder of the campaign, while Ebou Adams completed a permanent switch on Friday from Derby County for a reported £500,000.
Pompey are expected to remain busy in the market for the final 13 days of January, with a new figure emerging on their radar.
The 30-year-old departed the West Midlands outfit last week, with six months remaining on his three-year deal.
Having made the free-transfer move to St Andrews in 2023, the winger was influential in their record-breaking League One title-winning campaign last term, scoring seven goals and assisting five.
However, it had a frustrating return to the Championship this season for Anderson, who has appeared on the scoresheet just once in his 19 league outings prior to his exit.
And with Chris Davies looking for further reinforcements out wide in the remaining weeks of the window, the former Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers man was released by mutual consent last week.
What Pompey can expect from Keshi Anderson
Despite the winger’s struggles this term, the Birmingham boss was full over the attacker’s attributes after their title-winning campaign - and revealed what Pompey could expect if they were to pursue a move.
Davies told our sister paper, Birmingham World, in April 2025: ‘With Keshi, I said to him in the first sort of two weeks of pre-season - because I trained the players - that I noticed in maybe the fifth session that he was a reliable winger.
‘I started thinking that it was no coincidence that when the games really mattered last year, he played, and the managers played him.
‘I thought that was quite interesting and then the more I watched him, I thought he works, he presses, he defends and then he can take it forward with that quality.
‘They’re the kind of wingers I want. I don’t want wingers who are good going forward and they don’t run backwards. I hate those wingers.
‘So, Keshi fitted into that really well and I think he’s grown in confidence. He knows I trust him, he’s popped up with a lot of goals and assists. I think goal contributions per 90 minutes, he’s in the top three this season. He’s had a great year.’
Pompey’s winger options

Injuries have decimated Mousinho’s forward line this term, with Josh Murphy, Harvey Blair, Florian Bianchini, Callum Lang and Franco Umeh all missing large chunks of the season to date.
Minhyeok Yang was recalled by Spurs early in the window, while Umeh is also now expected to remain sidelined for the rest of the campaign.
This has left Conor Chaplin and Adrian Segecic as the sole options, while Alli added some reinforcements following his arrival from Luton last week.
