Championship rivals Coventry City seal surprise move for January Portsmouth target Jahnoah Markelo
Jahnoah Markelo was on Pompey’s transfer radar this month, but the winger has completed a switch to the Blues’ Championship rivals.
Pompey target Jahnoah Markelo has made the move to the Championship this month - although it’s not to Fratton Park.
The in-demand 23-year-old was on the Blues’ radar as John Mousinho looked to strengthen his options on the right-wing.
Pompey have reinforced out wide in the window, with Millenic Alli and Keshi Anderson arriving to aid the Blues’ current injury woes out wide.
Markelo, though, has completed a surprise switch league leaders Coventry City on a permanent basis. The Amsterdam-born attacker has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal at the CBS Arena and strengthens Frank Lampard’s attacking ranks as they push for promotion to the Premier League.
The forward joins former Pompey winger Minhyeok Yang with the Sky Blues, who signed the South Korean international on a temporary basis after Spurs opted to cancel his season-long loan deal at Fratton Park, and Crystal Palace forward Romain Esse, who also made a loan move earlier this month.
