‘Dominated’: No-nonsense Portsmouth verdict after frustrating Preston North End defeat
Pompey fell to a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End on Saturday afternoon.
Jacob Brown is adamant Pompey were hugely unlucky not to come away with at least a point against Preston North End.
And the deadline-day signing admitted he had ‘goosebumps’ over the Fratton faithful’s immense backing at Deepdale as he made his Blues debut.
Despite dominating proceedings in Lancashire, Alfie Devine’s header on the stroke of half-time was the difference, with the defeat leaving Pompey just a point above the relegation zone.
Indeed, Brown, who only made the move to Fratton Park on deadline, insisted his new side should’ve come away from the contest with at least a point.
And made it clear the Blues were frustrated by the Lilywhites, who remained solid throughout the afternoon.
Dominant Pompey frustrated by Preston
He said: ‘It would’ve been nice to get the win today but for me it was a great feeling to be in front of the fans for the first time.
‘Obviously the first time starting for a while so yeah great feeling to be back out there.
‘We had a lot of chances at the end, maybe not clear-cut chances, but we were putting a lot of pressure on them and I feel like it was like that for most of the game. Obviously they had the one chance where they took the goal.
‘It’s frustrating but we’re happy with the overall performance and the lads have been on a good run so we’re not going to get down about it.
‘There were lots of positives to take from the game. The result is obviously the most important thing but over the period of the season but the more positives (performances) you put in, you’ll get the majority of results.
‘We’ve just got to take the positives of it. We got into some good areas today.
‘I’d say we dominated the game but we just didn’t have that edge in the final third. The team has been on a good run and we’ve got another game next week to put it right.
‘It was difficult (to break Preston down) but that just shows the control we had on the game.
‘A lot of the time it was us having the ball and we tried to break them down. It’s a positive that we can come away to Preston, who are higher up the league and do that.’
Luton Town loanee on making Pompey debut

Brown completed a switch from Luton Town in the final knockings of the window, penning a loan deal for the remainder of the campaign.
And after hearing the incredible backing from the 1,785 supporters who made the trip to Deepdale, the striker admitted he had ‘goosebumps’ throughout the contest.
He added: ‘It was such a good feeling to be out there and leading the line on my first game.
It was a proud moment and to see the fans before the game was so good.
‘I want to keep pushing and put more good performances in. I got goosebumps before the game when the fans were cheering. It was a special feeling and it gives you that little bit of an edge.
‘We’re disappointed not to give them something to take away from the game but you could see the support at the end that they back the team and it’s a good feeling for us players.’
