‘I wasn’t too sure’: Portsmouth newcomer shares frantic deadline day move from Luton Town amid Barnsley talk
Jacob Brown penned a loan deal at Fratton Park for the remainder of the season on deadline day.
Jacob Brown has explained his frenetic end to the transfer window, which saw him seal a deadline-day move to Fratton Park.
And the striker has revealed the key reasons to what attracted him to Pompey as completed a loan switch from Luton Town.
The 27-year-old was one of three arrivals recruited by the Blues in the final knockings of the winter window, joining alongside Gustavo Caballero and Madiodio Dia.
Brown had reported interest from League One outfit before John Mousinho’s men moved to land the front man on a temporary basis for the rest of the campaign on Monday evening.
And Brown has explained how deadline day played out for him after hearing of the Blues’ initial interest earlier in the window.
He told The News: ‘I knew about the interest for a long time but it ultimately didn’t boil down until deadline day.
‘It’s one of them where you have to wait for the call to come and luckily for me it did. It was obviously a long drive coming down but it was worth it.
‘Yeah I came down on the day (deadline day) because I wasn’t too sure what was going to happen but it worked out in the end.
‘I’m used to it now (frantic end to the transfer window). It’s obviously - especially in the January transfer window - it’s difficult because it’s a last minute move. I’m used to it but it’s part of football.’
Why Luton Town man made Pompey move

Brown has enjoyed large stints of career in the Championship with Luton, Barnsley and Stoke City, with his best campaign in front of goal coming in 2022 for the Potters.
Despite netting two goals in 19 Premier League appearances for the Hatters in the 2023-24 season, the ex-Scotland youth international was part of their relegation side from the second-tier last term.
Having featured just seven times at Kenilworth before his Fratton Park switch, the frontman jumped at the opportunity to be given a return to the Championship with the Blues as he looks to reignite his career after a tough 18 months.
He added: ‘The chance to play in the Championship again and the fans. I’m really looking forward to playing at home, the atmosphere is class and the fans showed today that the support is great.
‘It’s a massive club and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play for Pompey.’
