'May sound stupid. More than happy. Would consider': Surprise Portsmouth verdict over Callum Lang future amid Preston North End interest
Callum Lang has scored two goals in eight appearances for Pompey this season.
Pompey fans have taken to social media to discuss Callum Lang’s future amid interest from Championship rivals Preston North End.
A report from our sister paper, the Lancashire Evening Post, on Tuesday revealed the Lilywhites were once again weighing up a move for the 27-year-old this month.
North End, who sit sixth in the standings at present, were said to have a £2m bid knocked back by the Blues in the summer window but could return to the table before the February 2 deadline.
Despite netting 10 goals last term, Lang has endured a frustrating campaign on the south coast, with separate hamstring issues forcing him to miss large chunks of the season.
This has limited the attacker to just eight appearances to date, appearing on the scoresheet on two occasions.
The former Wigan Athletic man is entering the final six months of his Fratton Park contract, although the Blues do hold an extra 12-month option on those terms.
After reports of potential interest in one of Pompey’s prized assets emerged, supporters took to social media to discuss the forward’s future after a frustrating campaign on the south coast. Here’s what the Fratton faithful have said on X.
Pompey verdict over Callum Lang’s Fratton future
@PompeyG90: I would honestly consider this now. If we can’t get him to sign new contract I would sell to highest bidder. Fantastic on his day but fitness issues are concerning.
@Aaron25650310: Be a shame to see him go! But at the same time we need players that can’t start week in week out!
@joerobbs: More than happy for him to go. Yes he’s a good player and makes us better but has spent 75% of the last 2 seasons injured so he’s of no use whatsoever. Sell, get a fee, and invest in someone else.

@1999BDC: I would consider an offer of £3.5 mill and on the condition we have a replacement lined up.
@leepfc76: If Preston offer £2.5-3m for me he can leave. He had a great season in 24-25 and no one will forget the four goal salvo v Coventry. Stuff of legends. We can pick up some decent players from L1 with the proceeds starting with Adam Phillips at Barnsley.
@SteveoLarham: Difficult one, 6 months left on deal (albeit with a option), partner’s expecting in June so wouldn't be surprised if he wants to go back up north. Can we rely on him to stay fit 2nd half of season? £1m and we could think about it
@jakemeyers2015: It may sound stupid, but... Maybe it's time to let him go? Can't deny he's been outstanding when he's played, and he has goal contributions in him without a doubt. Unfortunately, he seems to be made out of glass, and Pompey could reinvest in a player who will be available...
@Boxy200: If the money’s right I’d cash in. Doesn’t play enough.
@BenjoPompey: Love him. Key to everything, WHEN FIT, sadly that’s not massively often. If can get 2million for him and can get replacement then so be it. And have to say in the 8 and a half years of ownership that’s first “profit on a player”.
@JSweetman92: Can't afford to lose him this month but realistically how many games is he going to be fit for? If you guarantee it will be reinvested (not confident it will be), then I'd reluctantly sell.
