Former Portsmouth favourite Abu Kamara's future in doubt again amid Hull City and Getafe differences

Abu Kamara netted 10 goals and provided 11 assists for Pompey during a successful Fratton Park loan during the 2023-24 campaign.

Hull City are reportedly considering a cancellation of Abu Kamara’s season-long loan at Getafe.

The popular former Pompey loanee is currently back at the MKM Stadium due to a foot injury, which has kept him out of action for more than a month.

The winger has returned to England to undergo treatment and rehab over the issue, which is likely to keep him sidelined until March.

It’s been a frustrating stint in Spain for Kamara, who has registered just 10 appearances in all competitions at the Estadio Coliseum - of which nine have come in La Liga.

Despite outings against Real Madrid and Barcelona, the 22-year-old has struggled in front of goal for Getafe and is so gar goalless.

Fresh Abu Kamara development after Getafe frustrations

The ex-Norwich City man had worked his way into Jose Bordalas’ plans, featuring in six of Los Azulones’ previous seven matches prior to his setback.

Now back in England, Kamara has been spotted in attendance at the MKM Stadium as he continues his recovery.

While the Spanish top flight club are keen to keep hold of the forward for the remainder of his season-long stay, Hull Live have revealed Championship play-off hopefuls are open to a potential recall.

It has been claimed Getafe are unable to call time on his stay in La Liga without the Tigers’ permission, although the article does suggest talks are ‘ongoing’ over his immediate future.

Kamara has featured three times for Sergej Jakirovic’s side this term prior to his move late in the summer window, with the Hull boss considering the £4.5m man in his plans for the final weeks of the season upon his injury return.

While Pompey won’t be looking to re-sign the winger this month, it’s a fresh development over the popular League One title winner whose rollercoaster career continues to take a new twist.

An outstanding loan stay on the south coast saw Kamara play an integral role in the Blues’ third-tier title-winning season, netting 10 goals and 11 assists in 51 outings.

Pompey’s winger situation as window reaches climax

While Kamara will not be on Pompey’s radar in January, John Mousinho’s men could still dip into the winger market before next Monday’s deadline.

Keshi Anderson and Millenic Alli have both sealed a switch to PO4 this month, with the Blues currently in the midst of an injury crisis out wide.

Josh Murphy, Callum Lang, Harvey Blair, Florian Bianchini and Franco Umeh are all sidelined with respective issues, while Minhyeok Yang’s loan stint was cut short at the start of January by Tottenham Hotspur.

Pompey are still looking to bring in a total of six new faces before deadline day, with three already through the doors at Fratton Park.
