Portsmouth starlet confirms loan move to Havant and Waterlooville

The young star signed his first professional contract with Pompey but will head out on loan for 2023/24

One of Pompey’s latest summer signings, Reuben Swann has just been announced as Havant and Waterlooville’s latest squad addition after it was confirmed the 18-year-old will head out on loan this season. The young midfielder is one of nine new Blues signings after it was announced that former Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie had moved back to PO4 two days ago.

Swann signed his first professional contract with the Fratton Park side earlier this summer, joining from AFC Sudbury. He penned a two-year deal, with the option of a third year and was bought for an undisclosed fee.

However, a loan move was always on the cards for the youngster and it is now confirmed that the Blues starlet will make the short distance over to the Hawks to team up with former Pompey coach and kitman Shaun North to compete in the Southern League Premier Division South.

Swann will also join fellow Pompey youngster Harvey Laidlaw who, after making his senior debut for the Blues in October 2022, makes the switch to the Hawks for the upcoming campaign. Last year saw Laidlaw feature for the Hawks’ league rivals Gosport Borough.

When announced as Pompey’s latest signing, Swann said of his game: “I like to attack but can play anywhere in midfield. I want to keep developing my game and improving as a footballer, which I believe I can do here.”

Speaking about his new signing earlier in the summer, John Mousinho said of the midfielder: “Reuben’s an exciting young prospect. He’s an all-action central midfielder with a maturity beyond his years, so we’re really looking forward to seeing how he does in pre-season.”

The news from Fratton Park comes in the same week that the Blues welcomed the former QPR star Andre Dozzell to their ranks as Mousinho looks to bolster the midfield depths ahead of tomorrow’s first 2024/25 Championship clash against Leeds.

Swann, on the other hand, will now likely form part of the squad that will face Dorchester Town in tomorrow’s Southern League Premier South clash.
