Portsmouth sent summer transfer window message by Sky Sports pundit
One Sky Sports pundit has shared his thoughts on what Portsmouth must do in the summer transfer window
Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes one key area must be improved for Portsmouth to be more competitive in the Championship next season.
Pompey endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign, finishing in 18th, just eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Goodman accepts that Pompey have a challenge on their hands this summer transfer window, given where the club sits among their league rivals in terms of transfer spending and wages, although the aim is to increase spending levels this summer.

But the pundit says one particular part of the field is where the club should focus, depending on the finances that become available.
"Yeah, look. I think you've got to understand what Portsmouth are up against in the Championship. You know, what they're competing against financially," Goodman, who was speaking to The News via King Casino, explained.
"They are one of the lower budgets in that league. And they're run efficiently, so they're not going to break the bank and spend crazy money. So, that's why it's been hard for them to really compete.
"There aren't really too many clubs that you'd look at that would be spending as little as Portsmouth on wages and on transfer fees really. So, that's what they're fighting against. Got to be cute, got to be smart with the recruitment.
"But clearly, scoring more goals is going to be vital. In whatever league that they play in next season, that is an area that will need to be improved."
Portsmouth summer plans
While Portsmouth transfer news is on everyone's mind at the moment, there are also an array of players set to leave Fratton Park.
It's going to be a busy summer that's for sure, with manager John Mousinho setting his stall out by saying money has to be spent. We'll see what happens.
