It’s something those in the corridors of power believe has not been seen enough of at Fratton Park in recent years.
So with Mousinho set to be thrown into the deep end with a home game against Exeter today, what can we expect from his first starting XI?
Well, after just one training session with his newly-inherited group, implementing that straight away could prove difficult.
But with the former Oxford man desperate to make a good first impression on the fan base and determined to get the Blues back to winning ways, there’s no doubt that message will have been heard loud and clear by the players.
Mousinho will also be keen to put his stamp on the starting XI, irrespective of his newness to the job.
So with a track record of playing in a 4-3-3 system at Oxford, here’s how we think the Blues could line up against the Grecians.

5. Ryley Towler - centre-back 2
The new-boy made a good impression on his debut as a second-half substitute against Bolton last weekend. He fits the mould of what Pompey are aiming to build - a young, talented player who is one for the future, but can also step into the first team now. With Pompey's current problems at the back, he could well be part of the reshuffle instigated by Mousinho. Confidence won't be an issue either with the young centre-back. Photo: Simon Davies

6. Connor Ogilvie - left-back
Just like Raggett, the left-sided hasn't been his typical reliable self in recent weeks. He needs to get back to basics as he will be a huge asset as Mousinho attempts to build something at Fratton Park. The reset button needs to be pushed. Photo: Paul Thompson

7. Joe Morrell - central midfield 1
The midfielder is perhaps the only one who has been stepping up in recent weeks, continuing his impressive form following his return from the World Cup. He'll fit into Mousinho's playing style well, offering controlled aggression and the ability to break up attacks to get the ball forward again. Photo: Paul Thompson

8. Marlon Pack - central midfield 2
Leadership on the pitch will be vital for Mousinho and Pompey over the coming weeks. Pack provides this and should go straight back into the team following suspension. His aggression and passing ability will also be needed as the Blues look to play on the front foot. But these are areas Pack needs to improve on after a recent drop in form. Photo: Paul Thompson
