Portsmouth handed Abu Kamara boost as Hull City set sights on Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey ahead of Premier League return
Hull City’s interest in Leon Bailey should give Pompey encouragement as they bid to bring Abu Kamara back to Fratton Park
Leon Bailey could be poised to push Pompey target Abu Kamara further down the pecking order at Hull City.
Reports state the Premier League new boys are working hard to bring the Jamaican international to the MKM Stadium, after the right-winger was told he was free to leave Aston Villa this summer.
Talks have taken place to understand the terms of a potential transfer, with claims made that the 28-year-old is keen on a move to East Yorkshire.
Turkish side Trabzonspor and Spanish outfit Celto Viga are also reportedly keen on Bailey, who spent the first half of last season on loan at AS Roma before returning to Villa Park to help Unai Emery’s side finish fourth in the Premier League and win the Europa League.
However, it’s understood the former Bayer Leverkusen player, who has a year remaining on his Villa contract, wants to remain in England, which has been his home since 2021.
Pompey progressing with Kamara move
Hull’s interest in Bailey comes as they head out to Slovenia for nine days for a training camp ahead of their top-flight return.
When away, the Tigers expect anticipated new arrivals defender Matt Targett, wing-back Eliott Stroud, midfielder Oscar Zambrano and goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis to join up with Sergej Jakirovic's squad at their Maribor base.
It’s unclear at the moment, though, whether Kamara was part of the group that flew out of Humberside Airport on Monday morning.
The 22-year-old former Pompey loanee has been pictured taking part in Hull’s pre-season training after returning to the club from a loan spell at La Liga side Getafe last term.
But with The News understanding the Blues are on course to deliver a Fratton Park return for the winger, whether he flies out with Jakirovic & Co will give a good indication of how far down the road Pompey are with that particular deal.
Confirmation of exciting moves for Marko Milovanovic and Daniel Bielica will be announced by the club this week.
However, a PO4 return for Kamara is something that will top many fans’ wanted list between now and the close of the transfer window.
The News understands Pompey are progressing in their efforts to bring the Hull City man back to Fratton Park.
A deal for the Kamara hinges on finding common ground with Hull over a fee for the player they signed from Norwich in 2024 for £3.5m, with a further £1m in add-ons.
