Shein will become the club’s most expensive signing for 17 years, as he arrives from Norwegian outfit Fredrikstad FK.

The £2.1m fee and deal details are in place with FFK, with personal terms also settled with the 25-cap international midfielder.

Now Pompey can push towards confirming the capture of a player, who also becomes the most expensive signing of the Eisner era.

The Shein transfer sees boss John Mousinho bolster his squad in the midfield area, which is one of the key departments for recruitment focus this summer.

Championship rivals Cardiff City and Millwall were both also keen on the 22-year-old, but it’s at Fratton Park where the former Dordrecht and FC Utrecht man is now set to ply his trade next season.

Shein will become the biggest Pompey signing since the summer of 2009, when the club were in the Premier League and completed moves for Mike Williamson (£3m) and Prince Boateng (£4m).

The fee tops the £1.5m paid to Bari for Erik Huseklepp in 2011 and the previous Eisner high, with Sydney FC receiving £1.25m for Hayden Matthews in January last year.

Shein was left out of the FFK squad as they drew 0-0 with Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg on Sunday, with the move accelerating over the past couple of days.

His arrival provides Pompey fans with a significant transfer pick-me-up, following on from Scottish defender Luke Graham opting to join Stoke City.

A £2m fee had been settled on between the SPL side and both clubs, before the in-demand under-21 international opted for a switch to the bet365 Stadium.

Pompey are also set to sign free agent Odin Bailey, as the midfielder coveted by the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town becomes a free agent today after leaving Stockport County.

UD Almeria’s powerful Serbia striker Marko Milovanović is a wanted man at PO4, in a move which would set a new Eisner high in terms of the size of fee.

Former Fratton favourite Abu Kamara is also reportedly wanted this summer, with the former loanee set to leave Hull City after their promotion to the Premier League.

Pompey have also been linked with moves for Gambia midfielder Jesper Ceesay and Hungarian Mate Tuboly.
